They've carried out the redundancies & thankfully I'm ok (pending further economic downturn of course)
Most of the lads were last in but the decision was based on skills/experience which they hadn't yet accumulated.
We figure it was about 8 to 10 people so it might have been 10%.
We are now without a QA coordinator so I may be greater involved in the QA area than before.
I think the only thing that saved my ass was the on call work.

Concern
This afternoon, we got our first indications that there will be redundancies in our Dublin office. There will be a review of staffing levels and skills and then a decision will be made.
I hope I have made myself an essential part of the team so as to make it through this phase.
Eep!

Stressed
Very stressful day today (and tomorrow). My team leader is out and the bloke that usually takes over is too so I've been left in charge.
Things went relatively ok but the backlog is freaking me out. Also had a conference call.
Just have to get through tomorrow then off to the UK again.

Work
I don't mention work much. Kind of just get on with things but I've found myself getting a little bit panicked of late trying to meet deadlines.
As I'm still learning the complexities of our software, I still have to ask people for help. Quite a bit actually. It's left me wondering if I should have picked things up better by now or am I actually cut out for straight up programming. I enjoyed the database design & admin stuff when I was doing that. That being said, it was much easier.
Maybe I'm just shying from the challenge. My team leader is a sociable but focused bloke & has said on numerous occasions that I'm doing well.
Patience I suppose...
