Nightmare Before Christmas 3D

lady_bastet and I went to see Nightmare Before Christmas 3D last night and it was spooktacular.

It was like a new movie seeing it on the big screen, in high def 3D and with surround sound.

It was a little awkward wearing the 3D glasses over my ones but well worth it. The 3D allowed you to see into the sets and get a better idea of their build.

Movies

Went to see Pirates of the Caribbean this evening. It was very good, can't beat two galleons bearing down on each other in a maelstrom.

Have a headache now but watching Black Books, the one with Simon Pegg in Goliath Books :) Go team.

A Scanner Darkly

With the return of Mr. pearcider, we decided to make something of our usually nothing-filled Sunday & go to the movies. What to see was the question? A quick check of entertainment.ie, pointed us in the direction of A Scanner Darkly. I had heard of it a bit before as it is a trailer on the Xbox Live Marketplace but I hadn't watched it.

The review mentioned that it was by Philip K. Dick who, even though I don't read, I knew was a popular author of science fiction. It had Keanu "Whoa!" Reeves & numerous off center actors in the cast (IMDB). The review did mention something about an interesting animation style being used but we thought it would only be periodic. In actual fact, the entire movie is done with this quirky, layered, paint effect animation. It's pretty good particularly in portraying the drug induced hallucinations.

Not going to go into the plot at all, I just recommend people go see it as it is well worth it.

Seeing it kind of inspired an idea for a movie night with the likes of Clockwork Orange, Memento, Fight Club, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, etc. Basically a night of head melting.

Oompa Loompa Songs

Grabbed these off IMDB.com, can't seem to get the Augustus Gloop song...

Augustus Gloop Song

N/A

Violiet Beauregarde Song

Listen close, and listen hard
The tale of Violet Beauregarde
This dreadful girl she sees no wrong
Chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long
She goes on chewing till at last
Her chewing muscles grow so fast
And from her face her giant chin
Sticks out just like a violin
Chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long
For years and years she chews away
Her jaws get stronger every day
And with one great tremendous chew
They bite the poor girl's tongue in two
And that is why we try so hard
To save Miss Violet Beauregarde
Chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long
Chewing, chewing all day long.

Veruca Salt Song

Veruca Salt, the little brute
Has just gone down the garbage chute
And she will meet as she descends
A rather different set of friends
A rather different set of friends
A rather different set of friends
A fish head for example cut
This morning from a halibut
An oyster from an oyster stew
A steak that no-one else would chew
And lots of other things as well
Each with its rather horrid smell
These are Veruca's newfound friends
That she will meet as she descends
These are Veruca's newfound friends
Who went and spoiled her
Who indeed? Who pandered to her every need?
Who turned her into such a brat?
Who are the culprits, who did that?
The guilty ones - now this is sad
Are dear old mum and loving dad.

Mike Teevee Song

The most important thing that we've ever learned
The most important thing we've learned as far as children are concerned
Is never, never let them near a television set, or better still just don't install the idiotic thing at all.
It rots the senses in the head
It kills imagination dead
It clogs and clutters up the mind
It makes a child so dull and blind
He can no longer understand a fairytale, in fairyland
His brain becomes as soft as cheese
His thinking powers rust and freeze
He cannot think, he only sees
Regarding little Mike Teavee, we very much regret that we
Shall simply have to wait and see
Wwe very much regret that we
Shall simply have to wait and see
If we can get him back to size
But if we can't
It serves him right!

Charlie Quotes :)

Some giggle-tastic quotes aquired from IMDB.com...

Mike Teavee: Who wants a beard?
Willy Wonka: Well, beatniks for one, folk singers and motorbike riders. Y'know. All those hip, jazzy, super cool, neat, keen, and groovy cats. It's in the fridge, daddy-o! Are you hip to the jive? Can you dig what I'm layin' down? I knew that you could. Slide me some skin, soul brother!
-----
Willy Wonka: And in that moment I realised; "I must find a... hair".
-----
Veruca Salt: I'm Veruca Salt. It's very nice to meet you, sir.
[does a curtsy]
Willy Wonka: I always thought a veruca was a type of wart you got on the bottom of your foot. Ha, ha.
-----
Violet Beauregarde: [hugs wonka] Mr.Wonka, I'm Violet Beauregarde.
Willy Wonka: [Wonka looks at her terrified as she chews her gum] I don't care.
-----
Willy Wonka: I'm sorry. I was having a flashback.
Mr. Teavee: Does that happen often?
Willy Wonka: Increasingly . . . today.
-----
Willy Wonka: This is the puppet hospital and burns unit. It's relatively new.
-----
Willy Wonka: Welcome, children, to my factory and these people behind you must be your par... par... par...
Mr. Salt: Parents?
Willy Wonka: Yeah! Moms and dads! Dad? Papa?
-----
Grandpa Joe: I used to work at that factory.
Charlie Bucket: You did?
Grandma Josephine: He did.
Grandpa George: He did.
Grandma Georgina: I love grapes.
-----
Willy Wonka: Don't touch that squirrel's nut! You'll make him crazy!
-----
AND BEST OF ALL...

Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, the amazing chocolatier
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, everybody give a cheer
He's modest, clever, and so smart, he barely can restrain it
With so much generosity, there is no way to contain it, to contain it, to contain.... to contain... to contain...

Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, he's the one that you're about to meet
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, he's a genius who just can't be beat
The magician and the chocolate whiz
The best darn guy who ever lived
Willy Wonka, here he is!

Movies

Myself, lady_bastet and ickle_tayto went to see Fantastic Four last night. It was your typical superhero movie of course i.e. predictible but exciting. Jessica Alba was utterly dribble worthy as usual :P The bloke who played The Human Torch as funny if a little cheesy and I really liked the Thing & Dr. Dooms makeup effects.

Vote Dr. Doom!
Get me Big Mac, fries to go...

War Of The Worlds

I went to see War Of The Worlds with ickle_tayto on Sunday. Hadn't investigated any reviews beforehand so I very few preconceptions apart from the trailers.

I've never been any good at analysing the quality of movies such as acting, plot, etc. except in really extreme cases were it's poor. That being said I enjoyed the movie a lot.

The tripods & their destructive methods were impressive. Sort of reminded me in Half-Life 2 trying to kill the Striders.

Cruise & his kids' struggle to find safety & survive is a little "headless chicken"-esque but you can't blame them.

But the feeling of futility was put across well, illustrated via the desperate attempts to survive & of course the massive extermination of people.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the sequel when George W. Bush launches a nuke attack on Mars but they block that & say they'll no longer attack Earth if they can anally probe Bush with a tripod leg!

Hellraiser DVDs

For a long while the latest Hellraiser movies (Bloodlines & Inferno) haven't been available on DVD in Region 2.

Thankfully, they appeared on Amazon UK and I ordered them post haste.

I had Bloodlines on VHS. I quiet liked it despite what some people say. It adds to the history of the Lament Configuration and introduces some interesting new Cenobites. The creation of the twins is pretty gruesome too.

Inferno was brand new to me. It kind of felt like a TV movie though, cops and robbers. The new Cenobites in it were pretty weird looking too. Some good gory sequences though like a lashing-to-death with a razor hooked cat-o-nine-tails.

Hellboy

Went to see Hellboy with Tasha and Fiona on Monday. I thought it was rather
cool. I like most comic book inspired movies such as Spiderman and the Xmen.
They on the otherhand thought it was plotless and boring.

I also like the fact that it had a cool N@zi assassin with flick swords and
no lips and eye lids!!!
