Movies
Myself, lady_bastet and ickle_tayto went to see Fantastic Four last night. It was your typical superhero movie of course i.e. predictible but exciting. Jessica Alba was utterly dribble worthy as usual :P The bloke who played The Human Torch as funny if a little cheesy and I really liked the Thing & Dr. Dooms makeup effects.

I've made a few minor but necessary updates to my site. I've still to upload them as that ability is blocked in work.
- Catagorsied photos into Dominion, Bands & Other
- Added headings for each year within new photo catagories.
- Added a smidge of graphics by way of nav icons on sub catagory pages i.e. back icons
- Updated About page with better info (like LiveJournal) & web dev ideas
- Added Magazines section about some mags I like (not naughty boobie mags, goth mags :P)

Yawn
A rather uneventful weekend past. High point was going to Blackrock & Dun Laoighraire with lady_bastet. Didn't head out on Saturday night so I missed ferrousoxide's set. Instead we stayed in & had a curry with Tasha's mum & her mum's friend, as I predicted. I know it's not fair to head out every week but I wish there was something more eventful to do.
Then on Sunday we had to go to a remembrance mass for some of Tasha's relations. There was potentially a second mass be we skipped that.
Looking forward to the BBQ next week though. Getting food, etc. together already. Really hope most people can make it. I promise everyone a good time :P

I This, I That
I'm sure quite a few people have griped about Apple's habit of sticking "i" in front of all there products. Then to extend this bizarre naming trend, other companies have taken it on too. Henceforth, I shall be known as iJohn :P
A parallel thing happened with Windows. When they added "My" to key folders, other companies started doing it too. They plan on removing it from Longhorn as it seemed infantile & patronising on users.

Well, well, well...
What have we here?
A drunken so & so, that's what!
I think I've figured out the whole drinking thing, eat some food, few glasses of wine, done that before & I was fine. But not last night. Hit me like truck. Yes a bit of Absinthe was also in the mix but very little.
I'm not too bothered if I stumble about or splurge out sentences & talk gibberish but most of all, numero uno, I make it difficult for my lady_bastet. I love her so much yet things like this put undue stress on her.
I think I'll have to knock the wine drinking on the head. I always underestimate it.
So sorry if I tottered about like a g0bshite to all attending last night. Hope I was tolerable to some extent. Just remind me over the next while what odds & ends I promised.
Encode NMA VHS stuff for nephster13, check
Forgot Gothic Beauty magazines for paddywisha, doh!

Waaaahhh!
Oh yeah, Peter Murphy had a strange bamboo bo staff at the start of the show. Must've be to beat off the unruly audience if things got out of control.
Good stage prop though.

Peter Murphy Gig
Met up with a few people from Dominion beforehand in Eamon Doran's before heading onto the TBMC, then hung out in the beer garden for a short while. When we went back downstairs it was still a bit of a wait before he came on.
Finally, things kicked off. As I've mentioned on a few others LJs, I don't know much stuff by Peter Murphy as a solo artist but I really enjoyed it. I've read a bit about him diversifying into broader styles with middle eastern influences but there was no evidence of that, just dark (the lighting helps) & powerfully sung music.
I won't even attempt to highlight songs as Cuts You Up is the only track I've actually heard but there were some beautiful acoustic renditions too.
Really glad I went, I sometimes skip over gigs out of laziness but this was well worth it.

Happy Birthday to Dominion...
As most people know, last Saturday was Dominion's sixth birthday. I've been going since between the first & second birthday so I'm not as much a veteran as most.
The guys had a video night which went down well as usual. I think there was a bit of video skipping but sound was fine. I'm still working on encoding my DVDs, bit of a delay cause of the new hard drive.
Took copious amounts of photos. Tried to move about a bit this time & took a few nice tattoo shots. Will try to do more of them in the future, interesting motif.
Will give the photos a few days on iegoth before I post the link

New Mobile
Dashed out yesterday evening to get a mobile. Was going to get the one lady_bastet has, the Nokia 3200 but they no longer sell it. Normally, I go for the latest gadgety phone but this time I was willing to go for a cheaper one. Main reason is you can make custom covers for the Nokia 3200.
Still, wound up getting the Nokia 6630, fancy smancy gadgety phone with 1.3 megapixel camera, video player & a whole host of other nick nacks.
Will keep a closer eye on this one 8-|

Dominion Photos
I've posted on my LJ recently about my concerns regarding the photos in Dominion but this was more in relation to my methods of hosting. Without waffling on about it too much, I was just wondering what people think about taking the photos in general.
Are people who attend Dominion sick of them? Do people who don't attend look forward to them? Would a greater mix of people be liked?
As I've already said, if people ask to be left out entirely, that's fine. If people prefer to screen them first, that's also fine.
I'm really keen to hear people's responses & I'd like to talk to people in Dominion too (if I can stay sober long enough)

Weekend
Usual stuff for the weekend. Went to Blackrock, checked out the market & sat by the sea. Went to Dominion that evening on my tod. Trying to wear some of the gear I normally neglect, though it was cruelly hot.
Then on Sunday we went to Rathmichael graveyard to tend one of lady_bastet's family graves. Posted the link to photos earlier.
This week I have a second interview for DataConversion in town. So within the next month I may have a new job in town & can hook up with paddywisha, ickle_tayto, Arthur, etc. for lunch.

Photo Hosting
Here's the deal. I'm trying to think of a fairer way to put the photos online. I don't want to p1ss people off which is why a number of people have asked not to put any photos of them online, which is fine. So that's the first case, total exemption, which is easy to deal with.
Next is if people aren't so sure. I've been screening the photos past a few people first before making them public. This works well but might take a lot longer if many people are screening them.
This lead me to think, if I only use iegoth to distribute the link i.e. not publish it on my site, then only the people on iegoth will know about it because the galleries on PhotoBox are unlisted.
Any thoughts, all constructive criticisms welcome.

Town
Not to detract from the terrible events in London in any way shape or form, but is anyone heading into town tonight?
London Blasts
Just spotted on the news, there's been explosions on the tube & buses in London.
Reports still sketchy on the news sites. Looks very suspicious but no reports of fatalities, thank goodness.

Skin
I'm not a happy camper at all. My skin is in rag order. Even since the damage I caused with the overuse of neat tea tree oil, I've had atrocious breakouts. They're in different areas from the initial damage but won't seem to desist.
Thought I was done with all this after my early 20s. I've gone back to using blades to shave instead of an electric shaver to see if that makes any difference.

TV
Some interesting programmes on last night.
There was one of those family holiday swap shows where a spooky alternative (read Goth-esque) family who loved ghost hunting trips swapped with a straight laced family that love English family resorts like Haven.
Lots of tension. Spooky mum got her boobs out on the Haven family holiday, wearing lovely PVC body suit. Nice boobs actually & she looked good in the outfit but it was a bit over the top! Ironically, when the normal family had to do the ghost hunting, the spooky family went home, they still finished the holiday which was reasonable of them.
A bit later on the Metalhammer awards were on. Some good live bands. Was looking out for Interlock as they've been nominated (& won, I think) some newcomer awards before.

One Word
Seeing as a few others inc. ferrousoxide & mister_endon have had a go at this "one word" thing, here I go...
"leave a one-word comment that you think best describes me.
it can only be one word.
no more.
then copy & paste this in your journal so that I may leave a word about you."
As I genuinely have no idea what people think of me, it might be interesting.

DVD Encoding
Thank the miscellaneous monkey gods, I've finally managed to get encoding some of my music DVDs to work.
Still using the same software, DVD Decrypter to extract the VOBs, rename to MPG then encode to WMV with Windows Media Encoder. This time it works though. No skipping or sync problems.
I've already gotten through Siouxsie Best Of, Fields of The Nephilim Revelations, Apoptygma Berzerk Unicorn, some various artists from Beauty In Darkness 7 & I'm working on Depeche Mode at the moment.
Yay perseverance!

New HD
Ordered a 250GB Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 a few days back. It's SATA2, my motherboard only has SATA1 but I'm trying to think ahead.
Hopefully, it should arrive in the next few days. It'll mean another format though which is a bit annoying.

War Of The Worlds
I went to see War Of The Worlds with ickle_tayto on Sunday. Hadn't investigated any reviews beforehand so I very few preconceptions apart from the trailers.
I've never been any good at analysing the quality of movies such as acting, plot, etc. except in really extreme cases were it's poor. That being said I enjoyed the movie a lot.
The tripods & their destructive methods were impressive. Sort of reminded me in Half-Life 2 trying to kill the Striders.
Cruise & his kids' struggle to find safety & survive is a little "headless chicken"-esque but you can't blame them.
But the feeling of futility was put across well, illustrated via the desperate attempts to survive & of course the massive extermination of people.
All in all, I'm looking forward to the sequel when George W. Bush launches a nuke attack on Mars but they block that & say they'll no longer attack Earth if they can anally probe Bush with a tripod leg!

Tea Tree Oil Warning
I'm a big fan of tea tree oil for my skin. However, I got a new brand recently which was quite concentrated to combat a breakout of spots I had. Then, be it through overuse or concentration, it has caused an almost "chemical burn" to my skin, drying it out aggressively.
It's pretty much sorted now but it's annoying when you do more harm than good. So users of natural skincare products should watch out for the concentration of them in the case of oils, etc.
